- | '''Historical Note:''' Master Ross Sprague won the first GPO in 1965 in a field of 51 players. Over the years since, many masters, a few Senior Masters, the US Woman's Champion and most of Peoria's own top players have played in the GPO. This is an adult tournament for players rated 1000 and above. Competition is keen, but it is a good way to improve your play by playing against stronger players. The average rating of the tournament winners is about 2200, however, there will also be prizes distributed by rating classes (probably A-E) depending upon turnout, so you will be competing against your rating group for prizes, but playing strong competition. An excellent warm up for anyone planning on going to nationals. | + | '''Historical Note:''' Master Ross Sprague won the first GPO in 1965 in a field of 51 players.
