Andrew is New Peoria Champion
Andrew has won the finals match against Drew Streitmatter 2-0, holding off Drew's Queen with a Knight and Rook until he could win the Queen for his Rook.
The Peoria Journal Star newspaper has run an article about Andrew's victory. Check it out.
Andrew Fei has won the first game of his match with Drew Streitmatter for the Peoria Championship. The winner of the match is the first to score 2 or more points and have a lead. A win in game 2 would give Andrew the title!
Andrew has won his section by drawing Pete McConaghie (1868) in the last game of the semi-finals. Andrew finished with 3 wins and 2 draws. He will now play a Finals Match against Drew Streitmatter, the winner of the other section, for the title of 2012 Peoria Champion. Let's all wish him luck!
Andrew Fei and Chetan Reddy are playing in the current Peoria Championship being played every Monday evening starting at 7:30pm at HyVee in the Sheridan Village Shopping Center. Give them your support and stop by to watch the play. Coach Murrel will be annotating games from the tournament for GPCF.net. Watch their games and annotations here.
Andrew and Chetan each have just 1 game remaining, both against former Peoria Champion Pete McConaghie. Andrew (3.5/4) drew with coach Mike, and Chetan (2/4) was within a whisker of beating coach Mike in their game. If Andrew wins or draws his game, he wins his section and will play a match against Drew Streitmatter in the Championship finals. If Andrew loses, he will still win the section if Chetan wins his game. If Andrew loses and Chetan draws, Andrew and Pete will play a short playoff match to see who plays Drew. If Pete wins both games, he gets to play the match against Drew. Congratulations to both our players who are playing very well.
Chicago Open
Andrew Fei and Leon Li played in the Chicago Open over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Andrew scored 3.5/7, playing no one rated below 1780! Leon scored 5-2 in his section, gaining 100 rating point in a single tournament! Congratulations to both players!!
